Bob Dylan records his eponymous debut album for a reported cost of $402.
Of these recording sessions, Dylan said in 1962,
"I just played the guitar and harmonica and sang those songs and that was it.
Mr.
Hammond asked me if I wanted to sing any of them over again and I said no.
I can't see myself singing the same song twice in a row."

Sullivan Show.
During rehearsals, network executives asked him not to perform,
"Talkin' John Birch Paranoid Blues.". Dylan refused and walked off the set. |

Just over 15 minutes into his set, Dylan is booed by fans at
The
Newport Folk Festival after going electric. Dylan said in late 1965,
"I did this very crazy thing. I didn't know what was going to happen, but they
certainly booed, I'll tell you that. You could hear it all over the place." |

Bob Dylan crashes his Triumph motorcycle, leading to a period of
seclusion.

Receives an honorary doctorate in music from Princeton University.
David Crosby later remembered: "He didn't want to go…but we worked on him
for a long time. Finally, he agreed. I had a car outside, a big limo. That was the
first thing he didn't like. We smoked another joint on the way and I noticed Dylan
getting really paranoid. When we arrived, they took us to this little room where
Bob was asked to wear a gown and cap. He refused outright. They said,
'We won't give you the degree if you don't wear this.' Dylan said,
'Fine, I didn't ask
for it in the first place.' We finally
convinced him to wear the cap and gown."

successful arena tour and the live double-album, "Before The Flood." |

Dylan & friends kick off his smaller-scale "Rolling Thunder
Revue" tour one week after he played a daytime surprise set at Gerde's Folk City in
Greenwich Village. Some of the friends invited along on the tour included Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, Roger McGuinn, Arlo Guthrie and Mick Ronson.
