Bob Dylan is booed at the Newport Folk Festival.

The following year, Dylan would release one of his most critically acclaimed albums,
Blonde On Blonde. The LP
charted three Top 40
hits: "I Want You" (#20), "Just Like A Woman" (#33) and "Rainy Day Women #12 & 35" (#2). "Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat" made it to #81.

The Band releases its classic debut,
Music From Big Pink.

The closing week's concerts at The Fillmore West includes performances from, amongst others,
It's A Beautiful Day, Grateful
Dead, Quicksilver Messenger
Service, Hot Tuna, Santana and
Creedence Clearwater Revival.
These legendary shows were recorded and released as a double LP in 1972 titled,
Fillmore: The Last Days

Felix Pappalardi and Leslie West form
Mountain along with drummer
Corky Laing and keyboardist Steve
Knight.
The group's debut album, Climbing!, was released the next year and featured the FM radio staple, "Mississippi Queen."

Pappalardi had produced Cream albums:
Disraeli Gears, Wheels of Fire and
Goodbye.

Quicksilver Messenger Service records, "Edward The Mad Shirt Grinder." Penned by legendary UK session
pianist Nicky Hopkins, who had just joined the band, this lengthy instrumental appeared on QMS's,
Shady Grove, released in December of that year.
Shady Grove climbed to #25 on the Billboard album charts
